after booking my flights to Argentina, i quickly realized that spending 8 full days in Buenos Aires wouldn’t be the best use of my time. so debating between Patagonia (not enough time & shit weather), Igazu Falls (its a waterfall, BFD), and Mendoza (i like wine), i chose Mendoza.
Mendoza as a town isn’t all that great with one major drinking/eating area. but drive 20 minutes outside of town and you truly are in gods country and the wine is pretty damn tasty.
i spent a full day touring with a local guide named Javier (this dude was LEGIT and half the price of the other tour companies and probably twice as good) drinking wine in both Lujan de Cuyo and Uco Valley. Lujan is the more established region and Uco is the up and comer. The big difference is the views of the Andies. in Uco, you are much closer to the mountains and therefore get these amazing views.
overall, i would highly recommend for anyone who loves wine. i stayed in Mendoza proper at the Park Hyatt and though my hotel was nice, truthfully, i wish i had a bigger budget and then i would have stayed in Lujan or Uco at some of the amazing resorts.
fair warning, don’t be an asshole like me and get swept up by the experience and buy a ton of wine. its a bitch and half to bring back home (either ridiculously expensive or a pain to carry) and the pricing really isn’t that much better.
